Octal: A number system that uses eight digits. These are 0 to 7. Octal can easily convert to and from binary. However, hexidecimal is used more often. Numbers written in octal usually start with 0x and end with o to differentiate between it and decimal. For instance, 0x763o is an octal number.
Operating System: Software that provides a user-interface (UI) for your computer and access to your hardware. All modern OS have a graphical user-interface (GUI) instead of a command prompt, like the old DOS. Without an operating system, your computer would just be a fancy paperweight. The OS also does many essential background things that make it possible to run programs. Modern OS are very complicated. They have to manage hundreds of little things to make your life easier.
Opteron: The name of AMD's server CPU's. Some Opteron are sold for desktop CPU's as some Opterons and Athlons are exactly the same except for the name.
