x86-32: The technical name for Intel's 32-bit machine code. It was first used on the Intel 80386 CPU. Sometimes called IA-32.

x86-64: The technical name for AMD's very popular 64-bit technology. Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 was made to x86-64. All modern CPU's have x86-64 except Intel's Core [codenamed Yonah], Intel's Pentium-M or Celeron-M also called Centrino, and Mobile Pentium 4. Core 2 does support x86-64. This 64-bit machine code is an extension of the original machine code use on the first production CPU, the Intel 4004. It is called x86 because this machine code became popular with 8086, 80286, 80386, and 80486 CPU's. Technically speaking, the 8086 was x86-8 because it was an 8-bit CPU. The 80286 was x86-16, the 80386, 80486, and all Pentium variants up until recently were x86-32. There are other machine codes. The IA-64 found on Intel Intanium CPU's, IBM POWER found on old Apple and Mac computers, and many others.

Xeon: The name of Intel's server CPU's.
